10:47 am - What's Up
|
So look what I found a little over a week ago in the middle of the street in my neighborhood. Click on the next picture to see it actual size. When we picked it up it cried. As expected he was somebody's pet and we got a nice angel's trumpet plant and a $50 gift certificate to a fancyish restaurant I would never pay for myself for returning him.
Our pool is up and functional and beautiful and clear, and as of the past week or so NOT unhappily cold. Please come over and play in our pool.
My grades aren't posted but I think I got two Bs and an A, which might be the worst semester GPA I've ever had and I'm extremely happy with it and proud of myself. I had a great semester and it was still awful and I am sad that there are still two more with no summer in between them. A goal this summer is to not think about that at all.
Lastly, a faraway internet friend is coming to visit me from England next week, which marks the first time anybody has come from a whole 'nother country just to see me and that's going to be SO MUCH FUN.
current mood: pleased

The semester ends in 3 weeks, but some of my classes are already ending. Thursday night clinical is over (I won the award for bringing the best food but I can hardly take credit for my meal partner buying the best lasagna in the universe!), and after I finish one more complicated and tedious assignment geriatrics assignment that class, too, will be over. Then I have a couple of papers, and I'm not worried about the exams.
I am so excited about the summer. My beloved friend from the UK whom I've never met in person is coming to visit me at the end of next month. <3 <3 <3
Then I am going to relish every last bit if my summer before scary real life begins.
I am totally just putting off the geriatrics assignment.

I don't have any frightening evaluations today; I'm just going to hang out on the floor all evening, probably by myself, probably doing very little.
But I'm nervous anyway. Out of habit.

On a lighter note, my arms and shoulders hurt terribly because yesterday I did some heavy duty nursing that required me to use the constant force of my arm muscles for something like 20 minutes. I need to start lifting weights again. In any case, I'm quite proud of myself and the pain just reminds me of a job well done. :-D

I have reached that point a few weeks into the semester where I start to spent lots of time just sitting and staring into space because that is as far as I can started on my studying or school work. How am I supposed to get anything done if sitting here is 0 Fun but doing anything is -257 Fun?

9:05 am - How to be taken seriously
|
Last night I dreamed I was this man who took cute, sexy pictures of young women who might have wearing (in the bits that they were wearing anything) little space robot costumes. I was showing them to this skeptical business lady person in the midst of this giant futuristic office, trying to explain to her how I thought my pictures were respectful to women, how I wanted to capture the saltiness of that bead of sweat on her neck, how I like them natural and that's why I told them not shave their armpits, nevermind the space robot theme. She was too uptight and kind of bitch--she said "Well then you must not respect yourself considering you got a nose job."
I said that's completely different, it's my nose. I only did that so people would take me seriously. And I wondered how she even knew, then I remember that it was because my new nose was shaped like a spiral staircase.

Wow, I got a 73 on my last exam in Acute -- one point above failing! That's why I get for skipping the entire cardiac chapter because it's boring.

2:06 pm - Little Girls are Made of Cake
|
When I was very tiny my mother used to read me nursery rhymes. One of them was "What are Little Boys Made Of?", which describes the composition of little boys and little girls. Little boys are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails--that's what little boys are made of. But, see, I was always disappointed with what girls are of. Sugar and spice and everything nice, apparently. I thought that was boring. I mean, that's just what a cake is made of. Whereas, it was pretty freaky badass to think of somebody made of amputated puppy body parts stuck together with snails and whatever the hell a snip is. Kinda gross, but at least an interesting conversation piece.
I was knew it was ridiculous, but I did imagine cutting of my arm and having cinnamon-sugar come pouring out.

I have discovered to my horror that Yoplait "light" yogurt is light not solely due to skim milk, but also because it contains aspartame. I am completely thwarted in my quest to eat yogurt every day this week.

4:25 pm - FAILURE
|
I was completely prepared to fail the math test and I did, along with the overwhelming majority of the class.
You know what I did? I was converting the patient's weight in kilograms, and right next his weight in pounds I wrote "13.6 kg". Two centimeters below that, in the actual ANSWER SPACE, I wrote "3.6 kg".
Dammit!

I am sad that summer is already halfway through, and I have just caught my breath. I am going to have to go back to nursing school. I don't know if I just had a bad, unlucky semester or if I really hate it that much.

I don't really get saying "You're welcome" after somebody thanks you. I mean, I know it's polite and I might do it most of time, but actually it feels awkward and impolite. Like saying "Yes, thank me indeed." Apparently in its place I think we should bow our heads slightly.
Also, it has never occurred to me to be offended if somebody doesn't like my food. Instead I think "I wonder it tastes like to them".
